Scholarly Dreams - SAS Alumni International Inc(SASAi)
Jonel Leal
When you were going through school, did you dream of the kind of work, or profession you wanted to do, or to be when you grew up?

Did you dream of becoming a train engineer, or an airplane pilot? Did you dream of being a horse doctor, or a doctor who took care of people?

I am willing to bet that your dreams were lofty and high. Some latched on to their dreams and followed them all the way through. Some got distracted.

(At left) is Jonel Leal. He attended Ambalayat Elementary School. What is his dream? He wants to be an engineer someday. What kind of engineer? A Civil Engineer. Great dreams... and we wish him lots of luck.

(At right) we have Ina C. Gabaldon. She looks mighty serious - and she is. One thing for sure. Ina does not settle for just small dreams. She dreams of

becoming a teacher someday. Maybe teaching Physics or Science classes to high school students. Who knows? She may come back to SAS after she finishes her college work and take up a teaching position here. Wouldn't that be great?

Karen Laurente (photo at right) wrote in her essay that she would like to become a successful Nurse someday or a medical worker. Her reasons are very modest. She wants to be of help to her mother first, then to her relatives who continually have given them support when her father passed away. Karen is a motivated student. There are not very many publications that she hasn't picked up to read. Truly she loves to study and to apply herself to her academic responsibilities.

One thing is for sure, Karen is inclined toward helping others in whatever chores and challenges they may have facing them. We have high hopes for Karen's future.

In the photos below that follow, we have three hopefuls. (At below left) we have Mirasol Literato who comes from Bucao West. Isn't that where Mayor Jun lives? Indeed it is. Perhaps that close proximity might have good effects on Mirasol. Someday she may be the next Mayor of Tagudin - who knows?

The young lady in the (below middle photo) dreams of becoming a broadcast engineer someday. Maria Cristina Javier certainly has the voice to become one and the name. Remember Christina Amanpour of CNN News? Well Maria Cristina can belt it out there with the best of them. We wish her luck.

(Below right) we have our first ever Chef in the group of scholars. Yes, Karen Paola Makil's claim to fame is her giving spirit. It is due to her sense of hospitality that she wants to feed people... give them nutritious meals and so that they remain healthy. Can you beat that? Humanitarian dreams.

Rose Ann Fajardo comes from Barangay Lantag. She lives there with her parents. She has known hardship all her life and she is no stranger to hard work. Rose Ann is poised to return to SAS triumphantly!
Directly above and starting on the (left) we have Michelle Pera who dreams of becoming a Registered Nurse someday. Being a teacher is a very noble profession. In fact, some of our most illustrious members of the SAS Ai organization are teachers, special education tutors, mentors, principals, and school superintendents. Teaching is a twenty-four hour job. It takes not only dedication to helping students learn but also to see that they succeed.

In the (middle photo) we have our next future Elementary School Teacher. Randy Doctor, Jr. prides himself in being able to think in numbers, to see in patterns, and to analyze figurative problems easily. Well, he is one of the gifted scholars who is inclined to believe that Mathematics is an exact science, that the rest of the world just isn't all that important as math and science. He wants to teach young children.

Rose Ann Fajardo (rightmost photo above) dreams of becoming a Lawyer someday. What qualities do we look for in a student when we reflect on how relevant and achievable that dream could be? For Rose Ann the proof comes in patterns. She is academically sound, she is not afraid of hard work, and she is very humble. These three traits will see her through successfully all the way.

We have our three high school seniors left. (At left) we have Sharen Mae Munar. She won herself an ESC assistance program from the government in the previous years - proof of her bankability. She is moving on with her studies hoping to graduate with honors this last year of her high school years here at SAS. She wants to be an accountant someday. In the (middle photo) we have Jonas Garcia. He has a couple of brothers who are attending college and he also desires to follow in their footsteps. We wish him well and hopefully will cross his path again in the future. Jonas is a lover of math and science and wants to become a successful Engineer someday.

Our last scholar in the group is Jessa Lastimosa (photo at right). Jessa and her mother live by themselves now since her father passed away. This made life a little bit tougher for Jessa and needless to say, made going to school even more challenging. But with perseverance and a dead serious pursuit of her dream here she is about graduate from high school. Jessa is poised to follow in the footsteps of some of the greatest teachers she has had at SAS. We wish her well.

Jessa Lastimosa believes that her father is praying for her success. He has gone to the heavenly realm and now that she and her mother are the only ones trying to deal with life's challenges, the times have been hard.

Filled with dreams and aspirations, their youthful exuberance fades into the background - not that they lack the ability to enjoy life as young children, but they are very serious about their studies and about life in general. I believe that since they don't have malls to run to, television and 3-D movies to escape into, these kids are poised to meet the challenges of the future. SAS Ai is mighty proud of them and their families. We wish them well in their endeavors.
